What Is SS430F / SUS430F Stainless Steel Plate?
SS430F is the free-machining version of standard SS430 ferritic stainless steel.
Sulphur is added to the composition — typically a minimum of 0.15%, compared to a 0.03% maximum in standard SS430 — to form manganese sulphide inclusions that act as internal chip-breakers. This significantly improves machinability on CNC lathes and screw machines compared to standard 430, making SS430F a common choice wherever fast, high-volume turning is required.
The trade-off for this improved machinability is reduced corrosion resistance and weldability compared to standard SS430.
SS430F is generally supplied and used in the machined condition, not for welded fabrication.
What Is the Difference Between SS430 & SS430F?
As a rule of thumb: choose SS430 for plate, sheet, and fabricated/welded parts where formability and finish matter; choose SS430F where the material will be machined into a finished component and welding is not required. SS430F's added sulphur inclusions make it noticeably easier and faster to machine, at some cost to corrosion resistance, weldability, and polishability compared to plain SS430.

Note: SS430F elongation is generally lower and machinability rating markedly higher than plain SS430, due to the sulphide inclusions introduced for free-machining performance.
Corrosion Resistance & Machinability
SS430F offers corrosion resistance broadly similar to standard SS430 in mild environments, though the sulphide inclusions create localised sites more susceptible to pitting, so SS430F is generally not recommended for aggressive or marine-type corrosive exposure. Where SS430F stands apart is machinability: the sulphur-based inclusions act as chip-breakers, giving markedly faster cutting speeds, better surface finish, and longer tool life on CNC lathes and screw machines compared to plain SS430.
