SS316 / SUS316 Stainless Steel Plate Supplier in Malaysia & Singapore — Cut to Size by Bandsaw Machine
E Steel Sdn. Bhd. is a supplier of SS316/316L stainless steel plates in Malaysia, supplying customers across Malaysia, Singapore & Thailand.
We stock a wide range of thicknesses up to 150mm, and we don't only supply standard full plates but we offer bandsaw cut-to-size service, so you only pay and carry away the dimensions you actually need. No minimum order required.
What Is 316 / 316L Stainless Steel Plate?
316 stainless steel is a molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade, prized for its higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared to 304, particularly in chloride-rich and marine environments.
It typically contains around 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel, and 2-3% molybdenum — the molybdenum addition is what sets 316 apart from 304 and makes it the standard choice for marine hardware, chemical processing, pharmaceutical equipment, and food & beverage plants exposed to salts or acids.
316L is the low-carbon variant (max 0.03% carbon vs 0.08% in standard 316), making it the preferred choice for welded components where sensitisation and intergranular corrosion at the heat-affected zone must be avoided.
Both grades are commonly stocked and sold as 316/316L dual-certified plates, meaning the material meets both specifications simultaneously.
SS316/316L vs SS304/304L — Why Choose 316?
- Molybdenum content gives 316 superior resistance to chlorides, salts, and acidic environments
- Better performing in marine, coastal, and pharmaceutical/food-processing applications
- Higher cost than 304, but a better long-term choice where corrosion resistance is the priority

Not Just Full Plates — We Supply Bandsaw Cut-to-Size Too
E Steel supplies both full plate and bandsaw cut-to-size, down to the exact dimensions on your cutting list — including thicknesses up to 150mm.
This means you don't need to buy a full plate and cut the remainder yourself, and you don't need to source a separate cutting service. One supplier, one invoice, one delivery.
Why We Promote Bandsaw Cutting for Stainless Steel Plates
We operate multiple bandsaw cutting machines at our warehouse, dedicated to cold-cutting stainless steel plates.
Bandsaw cutting is our preferred method — and the method we recommend to customers — because it delivers:
✅ Clean, burr-minimal cut surface — ready for machining or direct use
✅ No heat-affected zone (HAZ) — the cut stays cold, so the material's corrosion resistance and mechanical properties near the edge are preserved
✅ No surface discoloration or oxide scale — unlike thermal cutting methods such as plasma cutting / laser cutting.
✅ Nicer, straighter cutting surface — often no second facing process needed before CNC machining
✅ No minimum order quantity — from a single cut piece to a full cutting list
Bandsaw Cutting vs Plasma / Laser Cutting for Stainless Steel Plates
A common question from customers: "Why not just plasma or laser cut my plate?"
Thermal cutting methods (plasma and laser) are fast but for stainless steel — especially 316/316L used in corrosion-critical, food-grade, medical, or semiconductor applications — bandsaw (cold) cutting is generally the better choice.
| Factor | Bandsaw Cutting (Cold Cut) | Plasma / Laser Cutting (Thermal Cut) |
|---|---|---|
| Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ) | None — material stays cold throughout the cut | Present — heat can alter grain structure and corrosion resistance near the cut edge |
| Corrosion Resistance at Edge | Preserved — no sensitisation risk | Can be compromised, especially critical for 316L welded applications |
| Cut Surface Finish | Clean, straight, minimal burr | Dross, discoloration, oxide scale often present, needing secondary cleaning |
| Post-Processing Needed | Usually ready for CNC machining directly | Often requires grinding/deburring/passivation before use |
| Precision on Thick Plates | Consistent accuracy even at thk150mm | Heat distortion/warping risk increases with thickness |
| Suitability for Critical Industries | Preferred for semiconductor, medical, pharmaceutical, food-grade | Higher risk of contamination or edge integrity issues for these industries |
In short: Plasma and laser cutting introduce heat, which can create a heat-affected zone that compromises the very corrosion resistance customers choose stainless steel — and specifically 316/316L — for in the first place.
Bandsaw cold-cutting avoids this entirely, which is why we recommend it as the default method for stainless steel plate, particularly for thicker sections and critical applications.
