What Is SS409 / SS409L Stainless Steel Plate?
SUS409 is a ferritic stainless steel offering good mechanical properties and high-temperature corrosion resistance.
It's commonly known as a "chromium stainless steel," widely used in automotive exhaust systems and other applications demanding weldability.
Highly stabilised versions (S40930, S40920, S40910) are also available, using niobium and/or titanium for added stability.

Corrosion, Heat Resistance & Applications
SUS409 offers excellent resistance to exhaust gas and atmospheric corrosion, superior to SS410 martensitic grades and 3CR12, though lower than 17%-chromium SS430. Scaling resistance holds up to 675°C continuous and 815°C intermittent service. Welding requires pre-heating to 150–260°C, with SUS309 filler recommended (AS 1554.6) and minimum heat input to limit grain growth. Typical applications: automotive exhaust tubing, catalytic converter systems, and mufflers.
