SS410 Stainless Steel Plate — Cut to Size & Full Plate Supply
Bandsaw Cutting Service | Malaysia · Singapore · Indonesia
E Steel Sdn. Bhd. stocks and supplies SS410 stainless steel plates to industrial buyers across Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
We offer both full-plate supply and precision bandsaw cut-to-size service with no minimum order quantity (MOQ), and ready stock to dispatch from our Klang, Selangor warehouse.
SS410 (also designated SUS410, AISI 410, DIN 1.4006, or EN X12Cr13) is the most widely used martensitic stainless steel in the world.
It is uniquely valued for its combination of moderate corrosion resistance, high hardness after heat treatment, and magnetic properties. The characteristics not found in the more common austenitic grades such as SS304 or SS316.
What is SS410 Stainless Steel?
SS410 is a straight-chromium martensitic stainless steel containing approximately 11.5–13.5% chromium.
Unlike austenitic grades (SS304, SS316), which derive their properties from a nickel-chromium microstructure that cannot be hardened by heat treatment, SS410's martensitic crystal structure allows it to be hardened to very high strength levels through quenching and tempering — similar to alloy tool steels.
This makes SS410 the preferred choice wherever hardness, wear resistance, and moderate corrosion resistance must coexist: pump and valve components, turbine blades, cutlery, petrochemical internals, and industrial knife blades are all typical applications.
In the annealed (softened) condition, SS410 is ductile, readily machinable, and easily cut with a bandsaw.
Once hardened and tempered, it achieves tensile strengths exceeding 1,000 MPa and Rockwell hardness up to 43 HRC — far beyond what austenitic grades can reach.
International Equivalent Material Codes
SS410 is specified and traded under different grade designations depending on the country of origin or the applicable standard.
The table below maps all major equivalent codes — essential when cross-referencing mill certificates from Japanese, European, Chinese, or Korean sources, or when a buyer searches using their local standard's terminology.

SS410 vs SS410S — Which Grade Do You Need?
SS410 and SS410S are related but distinct martensitic grades.
Understanding the difference prevents over-specification or incorrect material selection.
| Property | SS410 (UNS S41000 / 1.4006) | SS410S (UNS S41008 / 1.4000) |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon content | 0.08 – 0.15% max (ASTM A240: 0.08%) | 0.08% max (lower carbon) |
| Hardenability | Fully hardenable by heat treatment | Limited hardening response |
| Weldability | Requires preheat (min. 205°C) & post-weld temper | Better weldability; less risk of cracking |
| Corrosion resistance | Moderate; improves in hardened & polished state | Slightly better than SS410 in annealed state |
| Magnetic? | Yes — all conditions | Yes — all conditions |
| Primary use case | Hardened components: knives, blades, valve trim, pump shafts | Welded assemblies; structural parts not requiring high hardness |
| DIN / EN equivalent | 1.4006 / X12Cr13 | 1.4000 / X7Cr14 |
E Steel stocks both SS410 and SS410S plates.
Normally, SS410s only available in maximum size of thickness thk3mm. Beyond thk3mm, it will be grade of SS410.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q : What is SS410 used for?
SS410 plate is primarily used in applications requiring a combination of moderate corrosion resistance and high hardness after heat treatment.
Common uses include industrial knife blades, valve seats, pump casings, turbine components, fasteners, and wear-resistant liners.
Q : Is SS410 the same as 1.4006 or X12Cr13?
Yes. SS410, 1.4006, and X12Cr13 all refer to the same martensitic stainless steel grade. SS410 is the American designation (AISI/ASTM), 1.4006 is the European material number (DIN/EN), and X12Cr13 is the European chemical symbol designation per EN 10088. SUS410 (JIS, Japan), STS410 (KS, Korea), and 1Cr13 (GB, China) are also equivalent grades.
Q : Can you cut SS410 plate to custom sizes?
Yes. E Steel provides bandsaw cut-to-size service for SS410 plate. You specify the exact thickness, width, and length required.
There is no minimum order quantity — we can cut a single piece. Most of the plates are ready stock and dispatched from our Klang warehouse.
Q : What is the difference between a full plate and cut-to-size plate?
A full plate is the standard mill plate size as-produced — typically 1,219 mm×2,440 mm, 1,500 mm×3,000 mm, or similar standard sheet sizes.
Cut-to-size (also called cut-to-length) means the plate has been sawn to your specified dimensions, saving material waste and machining time at your facility.
E Steel can supply either — full plate for customers who will cut in-house, or cut-to-size for customers who need ready blanks.
Q : Is SS410 magnetic?
Yes, SS410 is magnetic in all conditions — both in the annealed (soft) condition and in the hardened-and-tempered (hard) condition.
This distinguishes it from SS304 and SS316, which are generally non-magnetic. SS410's magnetism is relevant for applications such as magnetic chucks in machining, magnetic separation equipment, and motor or sensor components where ferromagnetic properties are required.
Q : Can SS410 rust?
SS410 can develop light surface rust if exposed to moist atmospheric conditions or chloride-containing environments for prolonged periods.
It is significantly less corrosion-resistant than SS304 or SS316 because of its lower chromium content (~12% vs. ~18%).
For outdoor applications in tropical Malaysia, Singapore, or coastal Indonesia, a surface finish (polished or coated) is recommended, and the application should be reviewed against SS316L if chloride exposure is anticipated.
Q : Do you supply SS410 with a Mill Test Report (MTR)?
Yes. Material Test Reports to EN 10204 3.1 are available for all SS410 / SS410s stainless steel plate supply.
Heat number traceability is maintained through the cutting process, so cut pieces retain their MTR linkage.
Q : What sizes of SS410 plate are available in Malaysia?
E Steel stocks SS410 plate from 3 mm to 65 mm thickness.
Thicker sections (above thk65mm) are available on request through our procurement network.
Cut-to-size service is available for any dimension within the stocked plate footprint. Contact our sales team for current stock availability and lead times.
